The Community Table serves hot meals 365 days each year to those in Eau Claire needing food and hospitality. We rely completely on volunteer teams from the community to prepare and serve the hungry.

What is the volunteer schedule? Accordian Control

  • Friday (Sept. - May): 3pm - 7pm, (June - Labor Day): 9am - 2pm

How do I see open dates for team sign-up? Accordian Control
Scroll down the page to see our available dates on our calendar. Then email your group name and team leader contact email and phone number to the volunteer coordinator at and they will add you to the calendar. They will send you a reply with pertinent information for your serving date to help you plan.
What should I wear to help out? Accordian Control
Requirements are closed toed shoes, no sleeveless shirts, hair pulled back, and hats encouraged.
How many people are needed to form a team? Accordian Control
The ideal team size is 6 people to prepare the meal, 6 to serve, and 6 to clean up. Some teams split their group into shifts, based on these needs. The time commitment is about 5 hours total.
Can youth groups participate? Accordian Control
Youth groups are welcome as long as there is adequate group adult supervision. Generally, one adult is need per three to four children, depending on their age. Extremely young children (under 8 years of age) have a difficult time staying focused on the task and become bored. Minimal age of 14 can work in the kitchen, although minors may volunteer to perform services at younger ages in certain circumstances. Also the group leader shall ensure that each child has written parental consent and is under the supervision of a responsible adult within their group.
How much does it usually cost the team to prepare a meal? Accordian Control
Effective April 1st, 2009 The Community Table is planning menus and providing food in exchange for a $125 minimum donation and eight gallons of milk. This will help us utilize donated food and pay the rent in our new location.

Can volunteers eat at The Community Table? Accordian Control
Yes! We encourage volunteers to sit and eat with our guests. The Community Table is a community and this is the best way to get to know our neighbors.
I'm not part of a team. Can I come in as a single volunteer? Accordian Control
Absolutely. Right now, we need volunteers daily to help with dishes and clean up. The schedule is:
  • Monday: 12:30-2
  • Tuesday: 5:30-7
  • Wednesday: 12:30-2
  • Thursday: 12:30-2
  • Friday: 5:30-7
  • Saturday: 12:30-2
  • Sunday: 3:30-5

You can help by forming a team of 6 to 12 members who will prepare and serve the meal, and return the kitchen and dining area to a clean state. If you have 12, you can divide into 2 groups so everyone can stay busy. 4 to 5 team members are needed to cook and serve the food, one to help wash/put away dishes and 2 to 3 to clean tables and to sweep and mop floors. Often, there are 1 to 3 individual volunteers available to help, as well. Teams are always assisted by an on-site coordinator provided by The Community Table.
